SBS has welcomed the scrapping of a section of the draft anti-discrimination laws that would have extended the definition of discrimination to include behaviour that offends or insults.

SBS is one of several media organisations that had objected to the proposed provisions.

The Federal Attorney General Nicola Roxon says her department will be now be drafting alternative proposals.

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid told Greg Dyett what had been proposed would have been unworkable.
