Lord of the Rings Star Elijah Wood has reportedly signed up to play the lead role in an American remake of SBS's one-of-a-kind sitcom 'Wilfred.'
Appearing in the pilot episode - slated to be made under the same name - it's the first starring role for Wood, made famous for his role of Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings.
The original, tagged by SBS as a show where 'a boy, a girl and a bong smoking dog who thinks he's human…continue their dysfunctional love triangle', ran for two seasons on SBS ONE.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the US version is set to benefit from the writing credentials of David Zuckerman, one of the brains behind the hugely successful Family Guy, American Dad and King of the Hill shows.
Randall Einhorn, the director praised for his work on groundbreaking UK comedy The Office, is also set to be involved.
US cable network FX scored the rights to the show in May.
