Scammers target myGov website users

Scammers have set up a clone of the federal government's myGov website to trick users into sharing personal login and bank account details.

Scammers are attempting to trick users of the federal government's myGov website into sharing their personal banking and login details.

"The scam starts with a phishing email that looks like it is from Medicare, asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) details, so you can start receiving payments for Medicare benefits and claims," the StaySmartOnline service said in a statement on Thursday.

Users have been warned that the replica of the real myGov website has an URL address including '.net' instead of '.gov.au', indicating it is not a legitimate Australian Government domain.
