Melbourne youngster Curtis Scott is facing up to three months on the NRL sidelines with scans confirming a fracture in his foot.
The 21-year-old centre hurt his foot in the second half of Melbourne's 64-10 thrashing of Parramatta on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.
Scott will see a specialist on Tuesday while Jahrome Hughes is also set to miss Thursday's clash with the Wests Tigers as a precaution after suffering a head knock in a high tackle by Eels flyer Maika Sivo.
The Fijian, sent to the sin-bin for the challenge, is facing a one-game ban after being charged with a grade-three careless high tackle.
In better news, Newcastle pair Connor Watson and Edrick Lee are a chance to play against St George Illawarra in Mudgee after encouraging scan results on their foot injuries.
Watson ruptured his plantar fascia but Knights head physio Balin Cupples said the rupture could actually enable the five-eighth to be fit to face the Dragons.
"He's had a bit of plantar fasciitis over the course of the pre-season and start of the season," Cupples said.
"Initial scans show he may have ruptured the full fascia which could be a positive for him ... if he manages his pain throughout the week, we'll gradually build his loads and he may be available come the weekend."
Roosters forward Boyd Cordner will be assessed throughout the week after failing a head injury assessment in Sunday's win over Canberra.
There is more welcome news for NSW and Australian centre Latrell Mitchell (groin) and winger Daniel Tupou (neck), who have both been cleared of serious injury.
The Raiders are sweating on scan results for Jordan Rapana after the winger's knee injury in the 30-24 loss to the Roosters.
Despite a big injury toll from the NRL's inaugural Magic Round, Suncorp Stadium's pitch was given the thumbs up by league bosses.
"We will do some fact checking on this, but most were contact injuries ... so had very little, if anything, to do with the surface," NRL head of football Graham Annesley said.
