Sceptic senator talks climate with CSIRO

Climate change sceptic Senator Malcolm Roberts says he is going into a meeting with the CSIRO with "an open mind".

One Nation Senator and climate sceptic Malcolm Roberts will meet CSIRO scientists in Sydney to see if they can convince him there is proof of human-related climate change.

Senator Roberts said his first act after being sworn in was to write a letter to the CSIRO to offer them an opportunity to present their evidence.

"In eight years I've never been able to find anyone who can provide it (evidence) anywhere in the world, so I've got my doubts but I'm open," Senator Roberts told reporters in Brisbane prior to flying out.

The meeting will also be attended by a representative for Environment Minister Greg Hunt.

The CSIRO had previously cancelled a meeting with Senator Roberts.

The meeting comes amid polling data suggesting an overwhelming majority of Australians want action on climate change.

The poll, conducted by the Climate Institute, found 77 per cent of respondents accepted climate change was happening, and 65 per cent of people want Australia to lead the world on finding solutions.
