The SCG's preparations for the January Test are back on track after Cricket Australia deemed the ground's playing surface fit to play.
Play will resume at the ground on Friday, when NSW take on Queensland in a Sheffield Shield clash - the first game since the Blues' shield match against Victoria was abandoned on November 8 due to a slippery surface and a subsequent shield game was moved from the iconic venue.
"The SCG groundsmen have worked hard over the last fortnight to improve the problem areas around the in-field and wicket square," Cricket Australia's head of operations Sean Cary said.
"We inspected the ground thoroughly today and I am confident conditions are safe for players and for cricket to return to the SCG this Friday."
The clearance also paves the way for the Sydney Sixers to use the SCG as their home ground in this summer's Big Bash League, with two matches scheduled to be played there before the third Test against the Windies starting on January 3.
Just 34.2 overs were bowled in the Blues' abandoned four-day fixture against Victoria largely due to loose turf around the square.
Victoria were all six points for the abandoned game.
