Former French Open winner Francesca Schiavone has continued her impressive run, beating top seed Kiki Bertens to reach the semi-finals on the clay at the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota,

The 36-year-old Italian, down at 168th in the world, needed only an hour and 15 minutes to secure a 6-4 6-1 victory over the player ranked 148 places higher.

Earlier on Thursday, Holland's Bertens had beaten compatriot Cindy Burger 6-2 7-5 in the last 16, but she was outclassed by wildcard Schiavone.

Schiavone will face Swedish third seed Johanna Larsson in the last four after she saw off Sara Errani 7-5 6-4.

Spanish pair Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Sorribes Tormo meet in the other semi-final after both progressed in three sets.
