Perth Scorchers have been fined after they reported a breach of last season's Big Bash League salary cap.
The franchise went $5000 over the $1.3 million cap and have received a $150,000 fine with all but $5000 suspended pending five years without further breaches.
"Following a thorough investigation, we understand that this was not a purposeful breaching of the rules by the Perth Scorchers," Cricket Australia's head of integrity Iain Roy said in a statement.
"This has been taken into account for the purpose of fixing an appropriate penalty."
The Scorchers were BBL champions in the 2014-15 season and retained most of their squad for the following edition, which included Test players Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh and English international Michael Carberry.
They also kept domestic stars Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Brad Hogg, Michael Klinger, Joel Paris and Andrew Tye.
The Scorchers were knocked out in the semi-finals this year by Melbourne Stars.
Roy said the matter served as a reminder salary cap breaches were unacceptable.
"We do however take a proactive, zero-tolerance approach to maintaining the integrity of our sport and this includes any breaches of salary caps in the BBL," Roy said.
"The Perth Scorchers understand the seriousness of this error and have accepted the fine."
