Scorchers issue warning on lively WA pitch

Perth's pace attack combined to create havoc as the Scorchers recorded their first victory of the BBL season with a seven-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Traditionally slow starters Perth dominated the defending BBL champions on Boxing Day and with five pacemen firing at Perth Stadium they cannot be discounted as a title threat.

The Scorchers are the most successful BBL franchise having won three championships and after dropping their two first games this campaign an emphatic seven-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers suggests they are gathering momentum.

The Scorchers certainly appreciated a pitch offering pace and bounce as their pace-dominated attack routed Adelaide for just 88 as the visitors lost 6-15 after being sent in by Ashton Turner.

Jhye Richardson led the attack with 3-7 from three overs while Andrew Tye (2-9) Jason Behrendorff (2-16), David Willey (1-21) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (1-33) all contributed to Adelaide's woes

"It was hard fought and a bit of a tricky wicket, but we got there and got the job done," Tye said.

"The pitch had a bit of pace and bounce and it did a little bit early and swung nicely. It was really good to bowl on.

"We were glad to get a first look at it by bowling first and then we were able to chase it down, and take our time. As a team, the win has certainly done us a lot of favours."

Richardson was brilliant generating great pace and lift but more importantly, he is confident the Scorchers can now build momentum.

"Everyone's head has held really high and we were in this position a couple of years ago where we were 0-2 and still made finals," he said.

"It's a 14-game season and it's only early doors so hopefully our first win propels things from here on."
