Mitchell Johnson will miss a Brisbane homecoming on Friday after being rested for Perth Scorchers' sold-out clash with the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.

The former Test quick, who grew up in Townsville and played for Queensland before a mid-career move west, has again been a weapon for the Scorchers this season.

The 36-year-old destroyed the Melbourne Renegades last week, his spell of 3-13 showing he still had plenty to offer at the top level.

But he won't make the trip to Brisbane, left at home as former Australian one-day international representative Joel Paris is called upon in his absence.

Three-time BBL champions Perth (4-0) are again the team to beat, with Brisbane coach Daniel Vettori still wary of the visitors despite Johnson's omission.

"We're content with where we are but we know we're playing the best team in the comp and going to have to be very good," Vettori said.

"Players can step up, the likes of Joel Paris coming into a team, an international cricketer.

"No one's ever underestimated the Scorchers."

Brisbane Heat quick Josh Lalor will also miss the clash with a broken thumb, but is still hopeful of playing a part later in the tournament.

James Muirhead (hamstring) is the Scorchers' other out, with Ashton Agar released from the Sydney Test squad to play at the Gabba.

Brisbane (3-2) will have the services of Chris Lynn for two more games before the big-hitter joins the Australian ODI squad.
