Scorchers restrict Sixers to 8-112 in BBL

The Perth Scorchers have performed impressively with the ball at the WACA, restricting the Sydney Sixers to 8-112 from their 20 overs in the Big Bash.

The Perth Scorchers' renowned defensive bowling has again come to the fore with the defending champions restricting the Sydney Sixers to 8-112 in the Big Bash League at the WACA Ground.

The Sixers won the toss and decided to bat first, but the lively WACA deck provided good assistance for Scorchers pacemen Jason Behrendorff (2-24), David Willey (3-22), Joel Paris (1-23) and Andrew Tye (2-21).

With veteran spinner Brad Hogg chipping in with 0-20 from four overs, the Sixers struggled to 8-112 from 20 overs despite a solid knock of 47 from 45 by Englishman Michael Lumb.

The innings could have been much worse for the Sixers with Lumb dropped on 25 when Tye put down a sitter off a high ball from the bowling of Willey.

Tye's night got worse when he threw four overthrows from his own bowling but he recovered well to take two wickets.

Despite losing Ed Cowan for six when one kept low from Willey to bowl the opener, Lumb ensured the Sixers started solidly with three boundaries and a six in the third and fourth overs.

But the wickets fell consistently with Nic Maddinson making one, Jordan Silk one and Johan Botha seven as the visitors slumped to 4-48.

Lumb and Ryan Carters (27 from 29) tried to resurrect the innings but once Lumb was out in the 15th over, the Scorchers clamped down to keep the Sixers to a sub-par score.
