Scott Buchholz has confirmed he will remain a Liberal and won't be defecting to the Nationals party.

The Queensland Liberal National MP, who lost his position as chief whip when Malcolm Turnbull became prime minister, was rumoured to be considering following Ian Macfarlane and switching to the rural party.

"No, I'll be staying with the Liberals," he told reporters in Toowoomba Monday.

Mr Buchholz said he had spoken with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about his intention to remain with the Liberal party.

"I've had no appetite to go to the Nationals," he said.

But he believes Queensland is under represented in cabinet and there should be "greater noise" about it.

"I'll take that challenge up and advocate that we should have more representations in cabinet and Canberra," he said.
