Adam Scott is vowing to play moving day like Sunday down the stretch after dragging himself back into Australian Open contention with a sizzling second-round 65.
Scott's equal-low round of the day, featuring seven birdies, an eagle and a six-under inward nine of 30, left the former world No.1 just three shots behind halfway leader James Nitties.
Scott, though, was still smarting after an opening 73 left him playing catch up for the second year running in his elusive quest for a second Open crown to go with his 2009 triumph at NSW Golf Club.
"You don't have an option unfortunately," Scott said after taming Royal Sydney with all-out attack.
"Maybe I should take that mindset into a Thursday more often and play like it's a Sunday, because I left myself in the position where I had to play well today.
"One, I had to play really well just to get into the tournament, and two, just had to make sure I was going to make the cut.
"Another day around even par and I'll probably miss the cut, so, there's no option but to play well."
In this brooding mood, Scott is very much the man to beat heading into the championship weekend despite the three-shot deficit he must make up.
The world No.7 also cursed a series of missed short putts, including a two-footer on the last that would ultimately have given him a share of the lead.
"I wasted three or four short ones over two days," he said. "That's annoying."
