A rescue team is trying to prevent up to a hundred pilot whales from beaching in Scotland's
Western Isles.
Rescuers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue who are at Loch Carnan say several of the animals appear to have head injuries.
Loch Carnan, on the island of South Uist, lies west of Inverness in northern Scotland.
Dave Jarvis of the rescue team said on Friday some of whales were red with blood, and veterinarians were attempting to assess the cause and extent of their injuries.

Jarvis said pilot whales are social creatures, and healthy animals will stick with injured or dying companions and can beach with them.
