Tom Scully could turn out for his new AFL club Hawthorn this Sunday with teammate Shaun Burgoyne saying he looks good to go.

Burgoyne said the former Greater Western Sydney wingman could play against the Western Bulldogs in their MCG clash, a year after breaking his ankle in round two last season.

Burgoyne had been impressed by the two-time All-Australian squad member's dedication to his rehabilitation since his arrival at his new club.

"He's running around now like he's never had an injury so I'm excited to have him in the team," Burgoyne said on Wednesday.

"He's been training the last couple of weeks as if he's ready to play so the fitness and medical staff will meet this week to see where he plays - whether that's at Box Hill or AFL I think he''s ready to play.

"Seeing how professional he is with his rehab and getting to know him, he's made a lasting impact on his teammates."

Box Hill Hawks face Werribee in a VFL practice match at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday while the Hawks host the Bulldogs with both coming off a first round win.

Hawthorn opened the season with a commanding win over Adelaide but the ageless Burgoyne said the performance came as no surprise to those within the club.

Many thought the Hawks' high hopes would slide with Brownlow Medallist Tom Mitchell's broken leg in the pre-season but the Hawks hardly skipped a beat in their 32-point win.

Burgoyne said the team went to Adelaide full of confidence on the back of a strong preparation.

"It was a funny one because the outside noise was that everyone had written us off," said Burgoyne, at the unveiling of a large-scale street-art mural of his face opposite the MCG.

"We went over there and we performed pretty well but it wasn't surprising to us as we put in a lot of hard work in the pre-season.

"I don't think they gave us much of a hope last year and we finished fourth on the ladder so whatever people say outside doesn't affect what you do inside."

The mural of Burgoyne is one of three bespoke works in key areas of Hawthorn heartland commissioned by the club.

The murals adorn walls near the club's spiritual home, Glenferrie Oval, the MCG and the Hawks' current base at Waverley Park.
