Hawthorn recruit Tom Scully is on the verge of a surprise AFL comeback in Sunday's clash against the Western Bulldogs.

But as the former GWS speedster closes on his comeback match after last year's horror injury, Port Adelaide ruck-forward Charlie Dixon says he has no idea when he will return.

Dixon, like Scully, is recovering from a nasty fracture in his lower leg last season, as well as ankle damage.

The Power star's slow recovery has left him frustrated and he has needed more ankle surgery.

"I literally have no return date," said Dixon, who was injured in round 21 last season.

"I'm doing some physical training hopefully next week, and then build on that."

Scully was hurt in round two last season, also at the MCG, while playing for GWS against Collingwood.

It proved his last game for GWS.

The extent of his injury meant Hawthorn were able to recruit him cheaply, only giving up a future fourth-round draft pick.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs could be unchanged for the first time since their 2016 grand final win.

Star Fremantle recruit Jesse Hogan was added to their squad for Sunday's away match against Gold Coast.

Veteran North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson leads the additions to their squad for the must-win Marvel Stadium game on Sunday against Brisbane.

The only confirmed change for the Kangaroos so far is Ed Vickers-Willis, who is sidelined with a knee reconstruction.

Final teams for the Sunday matches will be confirmed on Friday afternoon.
