Australian scientists have found startling new evidence that sea level rise has been faster in the past 20 years, than it has for most of the 20th century.
Since 1993, satellites have provided data on sea levels around the world.
But, over the past few years, researchers have been double checking the information to guage its accuracy.
The new study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, takes land movement into account, as well as data from a network of tide gauges around the world's oceans.
Lead researcher Dr Christopher Watson told Aileen Phillips it's shedding light on what has, up until recently, been quite an anomaly.
