Sea Shepherd ends Operation Zero Tolerance

The environmentalist group Sea Shepherd says its ships have left the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and are heading to Australia.

The environmentalist group Sea Shepherd says its anti-whaling ships have left the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and are heading to Australia.

The end of Operation Zero Tolerance comes as the group says the Japanese whaling fleet returned to the area, after recently being driven out by Sea Shepherd vessels.

According to Sea Shepherd Australia Director Bob Brown, colder temperatures and rough seas mean any further whaling attempts are futile and the Japanese whalers will be forced to head back north in the coming days.

Dr Brown told Kristina Kukolja, the Japanese will be taking home their lowest catch in the ten years of Sea Shepherd's work to stop them.
