The Australian Embassy in Moscow is urgently trying to confirm whether any Australians were affected by the bombing at the Domodedovo Airport, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) says.

An explosion at the international arrivals hall at Moscow's Domodedovo airport killed at least 35 people and wounded over 140.

"If you have concerns for the welfare of family and friends who you believe to have been present at Domodedovo Airport at the time of the blast, you should first attempt to contact them directly," DFAT said in a statement on Tuesday.

"If you are unable to contact them and still hold concerns for their welfare, you should call the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trades 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135." Russian authorities have established a hotline for concerned friends and relatives seeking information.

The numbers are (+7 495) 363 6101; (+7 495) 662 8247; and (+7 495) 644 4056.
