A search for a man missing in waters off Hall Bay on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula has been suspended till Sunday morning.

An aluminium boat with two men and two boys on board overturned on Friday night in an area between Coffin Bay and Elliston, police say.

One of the men and the two boys managed to swim to shore, but a man in his 50s is still missing.

Local fisherman, State Emergency Service volunteers and police searched into the early hours of Saturday morning and continued their efforts throughout the day, with the help of the police water operations unit and a police helicopter.

The search will resume on Sunday morning.
