Second major Qld fire forces evacuations

Residents of Dalrymple Heights have been told to flee as a second major bushfire closes in on the Queensland town while Finch Hatton was given the all clear.

A bushfire in Finch Hatton has been downgraded with evacuated residents allowed to return to their homes but another town is at risk in central Queensland.

Finch Hatton residents who previously evacuated their homes have been told it's now safe to return but smoke will affect those in the area, reducing visibility and air quality.

On Tuesday night, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a warning for those in the area to stay informed.

A fire is burning near Kowari Road and Kowari Gorge Road, and crews will stay on the scene overnight to monitor it.

Meanwhile, a major bushfire is threatening Dalrymple Heights in the same region.

People in the path of this fast-moving blaze have been ordered to leave immediately because it could become too dangerous to drive as fire closes in on Dalrymple Road, in the vicinity of Snake Road and Chelmans Road.

An evacuation centre has been set up at the Marian Town Hall.

Police in Dalrymple are helping with evacuations and residents have been warned not to return.

"Conditions are getting worse," a QFES statement says.

"It is now very dangerous and firefighters may soon be unable to prevent the fire advancing."

Conditions are expected to worsen on Wednesday with temperatures to soar above 40 degrees Celsius, with the winds intensifying.
