Senate inquiry approves youth dole changes

A Senate inquiry has given the green light to legislation that would require under-25s to wait four weeks before accessing welfare.

Legislation that would raise the eligibility age for Newstart allowance from 22 to 25 has been given the green light by a government-dominated Senate inquiry.

The legislation would also require under-25s to wait four weeks before accessing welfare.

In separate dissenting reports tabled in parliament today, Labor and the Greens recommended the bill not be passed.
