Senate inquiry into ADF 'torture' claims

The Senate has called on the defence minister to release recordings of defence force training sessions amid allegations a soldier was tortured.

A Senate committee will investigate whether Australian soldiers have been subject to torture during "resistance to interrogation" training.

The inquiry, instigated by independent senator Jacqui Lambie, will assess whether defence force training methods comply with international and domestic laws and the ongoing mental health of personnel who have participated in it.

The Senate has also called on Defence Minister Marise Payne to provide the committee with defence force recordings of the training sessions.
