Senate inquiry into long service leave

A Senate committee will investigate whether long service leave could be portable, amid concerns about insecure work for Australians.

A Senate inquiry will look at allowing employees to take their long service leave with them when shifting to a new job.

The federal opposition won crossbench support to refer portability of long service leave to an upper house committee, amid concerns about the rising number of Australians in insecure work.

The inquiry will investigate which sectors and occupations could benefit from such a scheme and will report in February next year.
