Senate to take another look at detention

A Senate committee will investigate the conditions faced by asylum seekers in offshore detention centres.

The conditions in offshore detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru will be further investigated by a parliamentary inquiry.

The Australian Greens and Labor joined forces to refer the centres to a Senate committee to look into the treatment of asylum seekers, transparency and compliance with Australian and international legal obligations.

It follows a recent Senate inquiry into the allegations relating to the detention centre on Nauru and the Moss Review, which investigated allegations of assaults and the conduct of service providers.
