Italian Andreas Seppi has backed up his second-round win over Nick Kyrgios to be the first man through to the Australian Open fourth round in Melbourne.

Nick Kyrgios's Australian Open conqueror Andreas Seppi has rolled into the second week at Melbourne Park with a four-set win over Belgian Steve Darcis.

Italy's world No.89 won 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-2) on Friday to be the first man through to the fourth round.

Seppi will play fourth-seeded former champion Stan Wawrinka or Serb Viktor Troicki on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals.
