Network Seven has retracted its claim that a former parliamentary waitress had a sexual relationship with South Australia Premier Mike Rann.
During its Sunday Night program, Channel Seven acknowledged Mr Rann's denial of Michelle Chantelois' claim made in November last year.
"Seven Network acknowledges the premier of South Australia's statement in response to its Sunday Night program last year which featured an interview with Michelle Chantelois and in particular his denial that he engaged in sexual intercourse with Ms Chantelois," Seven said.
"Seven regrets any embarrassment caused to the premier or his family by the broadcast of this story," it said.
New Idea sued
In November last year, Ms Chantelois told the Sunday Night program she had an affair with the premier between 2003 and 2005, a claim Mr Rann has vigorously denied.
Mr Rann launched defamation action against the network, and New Idea, over their reporting of her claim but not against Ms Chantelois.
The premier on Sunday welcomed Seven's retraction.
"I welcome the statement by the Seven Network and their agreement to settle this matter," he said in a statement on Sunday.
"I do not propose to say anything further as there are other legal matters pending.
"In the meantime, I'm getting on with the job of working in the best interests of the people of South Australia."
Mr Rann's spokesman Lachlan Parker a short time later told AAP: "Seven ran a retraction tonight which has been aired on their program and they also agreed to pay costs. No damages have been sought".
