Buildings were damaged and roads blocked by fallen trees as a severe storm hit the NSW town of Parkes.

The storm cell struck at about 7pm on Friday bringing strong winds, hail and heavy rain but there were no reports of injuries, police said in a statement early on Saturday.

A wall of a takeaway store collapsed and another store was also severely damaged, while much of the town had a power outage due to downed power lines and flooding.

State Emergency Service personnel, firefighters and police are assisting in the response.
