Severe storms, flood warning for WA north

Ex-tropical cyclone Hilda is still lashing parts of WA's north with severe weather, with damaging winds and heavy rain for the Pilbara and North Interior.

People in northern Western Australia are being told to brace for damaging winds and heavy rains that could bring flash flooding thanks to ex-tropical cyclone Hilda.

The severe weather warning for parts of the Pilbara and North Interior include Parnngurr and Telfer

On Thursday, Hilda, now a tropical low, was estimated to be 80km north of Telfer.

The low is moving south-southeast at about 10km/h and will continue to track in this direction through the eastern Pilbara and into the west of the North Interior during Friday.

The centre of the low should pass near Telfer between around 6am and midday today.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning residents the storms may cause damage to homes and properties.
