The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, with heavy rain forecast to lash parts of the Top End on Thursday morning.

Heavy rain is forecast to lash parts of the Top End on Thursday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for people in parts of the Carpentaria and Barkly districts.

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding," the bureau said.

"Locations which may be affected include Wollogorang, Renner Springs, Brunette Downs and Cresswell Downs."
