A Queensland couple have been attacked by a shark after chasing the animal on their jetski.

The two were drifting off Fraser Island on Sunday morning trying to film the bronze whaler when it suddenly lunged towards them.

"I literally had to move my leg so it didn't get mauled," the woman posted to Facebook.

Viewers have criticised the couple for annoying the animal and some have said they're lucky to escape unharmed.
