Sharks 20s re-write records with 84-6 rout

Cronulla Sharks' under-20s have equalled the biggest ever winning margin in rugby league's National Youth Competition with an 84-6 rout of Wests Tigers.

The future is looking bright in the Shire.

The Cronulla Sharks under-20s have re-written rugby league's National Youth Competition record books with an 84-6 rout of Wests Tigers at Southern Cross Group Stadium.

The young Sharks ran in 15 tries to set a new benchmark for most points scored in an under-20s game and equalled the record for the biggest margin in the competition's history.

Halfback Kyle Flanagan, the son of Sharks head coach Shane Flanagan, ran in two tries and kicked 12 goals from 15 attempts for a personal tally of 32 points.

Flanagan is now sailing towards a record for the most points in an NYC season after taking his 2017 tally to 208.

After 15 rounds he is quickly approaching the 322-point mark set by the Tigers' Jake Mullaney in 2009.

Flanagan is expected to graduate to the NRL but is probably still a couple years off being ready.

Briton Nikora crossed for three tries and Tony Matautia for a double in the flogging which saw the Sharks maintain their footing at the top of the ladder.
