Sharks centres ruled out of NRL by injury

Centres Jesse Ramien and Ricky Leutele are unlikely to play for Cronulla before the NRL finals after they suffered injuries in the win over North Queensland.

Cronulla are on the look out for a new centre pairing to finish their top-four charge after Jesse Ramien and Ricky Leutele were both ruled out for up to two weeks through injury.

Ramien (ankle) and Leutele (knee) went down in Saturday's win over North Queensland but were cleared of serious injuries on Monday.

They are likely to be sidelined for Sunday's clash with Newcastle, before being considered some chance to push to return against Canterbury in the final round.

Regardless it means coach Shane Flanagan will be on the lookout for two new centres, with one option potentially being moving Josh Dugan in from the wing.

Dugan has played in every position in the backline this year but had looked to be consigned to the far right edge after Valentine Holmes claimed the fullback jersey during the former Canberra and St George Illawarra star's prolonged absence through injury last month.

However, the 28-year-old has played centre for NSW and Australia and would be an easy fit if Sione Katoa or Aaron Grey come into the side on the wing.

Edrick Lee and Kurt Capewell could also be considered to fill backline positions when coach Shane Flanagan names his side on Tuesday, however, it will depend on both their fitness as they battle shoulder and thumb injuries respectively.

The Sharks are sixth with two rounds to play are - equal with fourth-placed St George Illawarra on wins and just two points behind ladder-leaders Melbourne.
