Sharks sign hooker hours before deadline

Cronulla have signed Canberra bench hooker Adam Clydsdale for the rest of the NRL season, easing their dummy-half woes.

Cronulla have pulled off a last-minute mid-season signing, luring Adam Clydsdale from Canberra to fix their hooking woes.

Just hours before the June 30 deadline, the Sharks confirmed the arrival of Clydsdale for the remainder of the 2017 season.

The 24-year-old will be unable to play for the Sharks on Saturday against the Sydney Roosters, but will be on hand after their round 18 bye against Gold Coast to add depth to the dummy half role.

Cronulla lost regular hooker Jayden Brailey to a broken jaw last week, ruling him out for between 6-8 matches.

Former Penrith and North Queensland rake James Segeyaro also isn't due back from a broken arm until after the bye, while they had previously agreed to release Daniel Mortimer to the English Super League.

It's left coach Shane Flanagan with only Fa'amanu Brown to play out of dummy half on Saturday against the Roosters, despite having never started in the position in the NRL.

Bench utility Joseph Paulo will also add back-up off the bench, but Flanagan said on Friday he wasn't worried about the impact that would have on the team.

"Nu is our back-up half and back-up No.9," Flanagan said.

"He's done a really good job for us there and he'll do a good job for us tomorrow."

Clydsdale played 15 matches for Canberra since arriving at the start of last year from Newcastle.
