Shed fire at National Zoo in Canberra

Fire fighters have contained a fire at a maintenance shed at the National Zoo in Canberra that broke out near the lion and tiger enclosure.

A roof has partially collapsed after a fire broke out in a maintenance shed at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra near the lion and tiger enclosure.

Firefighters have contained the blaze to the shed and animals are being cared for by zoo staff.

The on-site hotel, bungalow and tree house accommodation facilities were evacuated as a precaution, but the zoo is operating as normal.

The zoo later tweeted that it would be closed for the remainder of the day.

"All animals and visitors are safe," it said.
