Salford's Australian director of rugby Tim Sheens has gone back to the NRL to bolster his Super League squad for 2016 but is also scouring bizarre new areas for potential talent.
He is to give trials to a RAF weapons technician and a member of the British bobsleigh team ahead of the new season.
Jordan Andrade, 23, played in the 2013 Armed Forces World Cup and caught the eye of Sheens during an inter-services game in July at the AJ Bell Stadium.
"It was surreal getting the phone call from Tim, inviting me for a trial," said Andrade, who played briefly with Oxford this year in League 1.
"It's the dream really and the lifestyle I want to live. I obviously would love to get a contract at the end of it and have a year of playing but we'll see what happens."

Luke Frixou, 21, will join Andrade for pre-season with the Red Devils after being spotted by Sheens taking part in Australian reality TV program, The NRL Rookie, in which he reached the finals.
Frixou has also represented the national bobsleigh team, previously playing rugby union for Derby and Nottingham, as well as internationally for Cyprus.
"A professional contract is something I'd really like," he said. "I'm going to work hard and try and make it happen."
