Shocked retiree asked for ID

Retired decorator Stuart Allbrighton was shocked when asked for proof of age while buying some solar garden lights, which should only be sold to over 18s, The Daily Express reports.

The shop assistant at Poundland in Shanklin, in the Isle of Wight, said they came with an age restriction because they "had a spiky end" and could be used as a weapon.

Allbrighton was allowed to purchase the tubular lights after showing his bus pass.

"I was taken aback, not just because of the possibility I would want to harm somebody but also because I may have been mistaken for being under 18," he said.
