Police say Gold Coast officers responded to reports of shots being fire at the Robina Town Centre about 2pm (AEST) and a man and a woman have been left with gunshot wounds.
The ABC says witnesses saw a muscular man of Pacific Islander appearance with a tattooed neck holding a silver handgun, and police belive the suspect has fled.

Parts of the centre remain on lockdown, with the ABC quoting people who described scenes of pandemonium as screaming people fled after the shots rang out.
Officers are looking for a Pacific Islander man, about 180cm tall with a muscular build and full neck tattoo.
