Shorten applauds PM on domestic violence

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten is pleased Malcolm Turnbull is investing $100 million to combat domestic violence, but wants more money for legal services.

Labor has welcomed the federal government's $100 million package to address domestic violence. (AAP)

A $100 million package to address domestic violence has been welcomed as a "great start" by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

The package, which includes money for training frontline staff and boosting at-home protection, was unveiled by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Thursday.

While he is pleased to see the investment, Mr Shorten told reporters in Sydney he would like federal funding taken from community legal services returned.
