Labor leader Bill Shorten has urged Queensland voters in the Longman by-election to tell the Turnbull government what they think of company tax cuts.

"We can make sure in Longman the message goes loud and clear to this government - we don't want $17 billion for the big banks, we want $17 billion for our schools," the opposition leader told a campaign rally on Sunday.

Mr Shorten, who helped launch his candidate Susan Lamb's campaign to return to parliament as the MP for Longman, warned a Labor victory wasn't certain.

"No election win is inevitable, nor is any election defeat," Mr Shorten said.

Mr Shorten has been in the electorate since Friday doing public and private campaign events, with Labor seeing the seat as a genuine battleground.

Ms Lamb, who was one of the MPs forced to quit over dual-citizenship issues, said the battle would be fought on "people and priorities".

Both she and Mr Shorten sought to tie federal issues with local ones, pointing to the federal government's proposed tax cuts as ripping money away from the local Caboolture hospital and local tertiary education facilities.

"This by-election is about a government who's got the principle all wrong, and about a party that has got the principle all right," she told the rally.

Before standing down as part of the federal citizenship scandal, Ms Lamb held the seat by just 0.8 per cent.

Ms Lamb has formally renounced the British citizenship which saw her fall foul of s44 of the constitution, and is contesting Longman as part of the "Super Saturday" group of five by-elections being held next month for seats vacated as part of the citizenship issue.

She's facing former state Liberal National Party MP Trevor Ruthenberg.
