Shorten rejects Turnbull bank request

Bill Shorten won't be abandoning support for a royal commission into the banking sector.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has written to the opposition leader asking him to drop the call for a royal commission and instead back a new complaints tribunal and regular parliamentary scrutiny via the economics committee.

"No," Mr Shorten tweeted on Friday in response to the letter.
