Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will propose amendments to the China free trade agreement when parliament sits next week after consulting business and unions.
Labor has concerns over the employment elements of the agreement, but Mr Shorten said he recognises it's not realistic to get the treaty renegotiated.
"Labor and Liberals are able capable of fixing some the concerns in the surrounding legislation around the treaty ... let's make the parliament operate, as opposed to being a politically partisan shop," he told reporters in Brisbane on Thursday.
