Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's approval rating may have sunk since Malcolm Turnbull became prime minister, but he will still lead Labor to next year's federal election.

That's according to shadow treasurer Chris Bowen, who says Labor's leadership tussles are in the past and it's the Liberals who are now engaged in destabilising leadership speculation.

"We don't have a perfect track record, we have learnt our lessons, we have been focusing on the main game and will continue to do so," Mr Bowen told Sky News on Sunday.
