A Facebook petition has been started encouraging the pair to get married, though the children's show has repeatedly denied Bert and Ernie are gay.

CNN reports The Sesame Worskshop, which produces Sesame Street says that while Bert and Ernie are identified as male characters, they "do not have a sexual orientation."

The petition members say they want Bert and Ernie to be role models for young viewers.
