Should Manus Island detention centre be shut?

The Australian Greens and asylum seeker advocates have called for the closure of the Manus Island detention centre after a detainee died in a riot at the facility.

The events at Manus Island have reached boiling point.

It's unclear exactly what happened at the centre, with conflicting reports coming from refugee advocates, the media and the federal government.

One thing that is certain is that the people detained at Manus Island are desperate, and now one of them is dead.
