Should people have to work for the dole?

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has proposed quarantining welfare payments for the long-term unemployed, and he would scrap the dole for young people who live in areas where there's unskilled work available, such as fruit-picking.He would also create a new payment for people with 'treatable' disabilities, and he would make work-for-the-dole mandatory for people under 50 who have been unemployed for more than six months.Labor says it's an old plan, while the Greens say it demonises those who are desperate to find work. The welfare sector argues the proposals are cruel and unfair. What do you think? Is a welfare crackdown needed or would it disadvantage the unemployed?
