Should the government get tough on banks?

Politicians have slammed the banks for what they say are unnecessary rate hikes. One idea to tackle this is giving the competition commission greater powers to crack down on banks 'signalling' their interest rate intentions to one another. So should they get tough?Or are you bored stiff at mortgage-talk, and far more interested in watching your savings accrue interest?
