New South Australia coach Jamie Siddons has backed former Australian one-day players Callum Ferguson and Kane Richardson to lift them off the canvas in this year's Matador Cup.
The Redbacks were wooden-spooners in last year's 50-over competition, winning one game from seven attempts.
Young captain Travis Head will aim to get the best out of his bowling attack, led by pacemen Richardson, Joe Mennie, Daniel Worrall and Gary Putland, as well as exciting leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
Ferguson, experienced hand Tom Cooper and big-hitting wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman will form the spine of South Australia's batting order.
Siddons, who captained South Australia to victory in the 1995-96 Sheffield Shield, said the Redbacks' had undergone a gruelling pre-season.
"As far as preparation goes, everyone has put in the hard yards and now we're excited to play our first match," Siddons said.
"This is our first real test of the year and we want to go out there and play some really positive cricket for our fans."
South Australia kick off their Matador Cup campaign against last year's champions Western Australia at Hurstville on October 5.
South Australia: Travis Head (capt), Tom Andrews, Tom Cooper, Callum Ferguson, Jake Lehmann, Tim Ludeman, Joe Mennie, Gary Putland, Kane Richardson, Sam Raphael, Alex Ross, Daniel Worrall, Nick Winter, Adam Zampa.
