Australia's Ben Simmons produced 21 points for the Philadelphia 76ers as they overcame NBA All-Star centre Joel Embiid's absence to beat the Miami Heat 106-102.

Boban Marjanovic added 19 - including three free throws in the final 90 seconds - while Jimmy Butler had 18 and JJ Redick hit a late three-pointer to get the 76ers home without Embiid, who is expected to miss a week with a knee injury.

Veteran Dwyane Wade scored 19 points for Miami, who led 99-98 with 56 seconds on the clock.

In Oakland, Steph Curry scored 36 points, hitting 10 3-pointers, before Golden State survived a hectic finish to edge the Sacramento Kings 125-123.

Sacramento trailed 123-117 with 25.5 seconds remaining but closed within 125-123 following back-to-back 3s by Buddy Hield.

After Andre Iguodala missed a pair of free throws, the Kings had a chance to tie but Hield shot an airball as time expired.

LeBron James scored 29 points, Brandon Ingram added 27 and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied from a 19-point deficit midway through the third quarter to defeat the Houston Rockets 111-106.

The Lakers trailed most of the game and were down 95-88 with 7:49 remaining when they went on a 17-4 run over a six-minute span.

James Harden led Houston with 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists before fouling out with 1:24 remaining.

It is his 32nd consecutive game where he has scored 30 or more points, overtaking Wilt Chamberlain for the second-longest streak in NBA history. Chamberlain also holds the record at 65 games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo racked up 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Boston Celtics 98-97 victory.

Khris Middleton scored 15 points for the Bucks, including a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 32.5 seconds remaining.

Kyrie Irving, who scored 22 points, made a layup with 27.5 seconds left to cut Boston's deficit to one, but he missed a wild left-handed shot for the win at the buzzer.

In his third game back since missing 50 games this season with a toe injury, Kevin Love scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 111-98 win over the Phoenix Suns.

The loss was the 16th straight for the Suns, a franchise record. Cleveland recorded a season-high 34 assists, with Australian Matthew Dellavedova finishing with 11.

Jusuf Nurkic collected 27 points and 12 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers opened a seven-game road trip with a 113-99 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
