Simmons stars again in LSU basketball win

Melbourne's Ben Simmons had 22 points and nine rebounds in another stellar outing for Louisiana State University.

Australian teenager Ben Simmons has again lived up to his billing as US college basketball's best player and the expected No.1 pick in next year's NBA Draft.

In just his second college game, Simmons displayed his extraordinary allround talent as he led Louisiana State University to 91-69 victory over Georgia's Kennesaw State on Monday.

The Melbourne 19-year-old topscored with 22 points and also had nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocked shots on LSU's home court, Pete Maravich Assembly Center, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He produced multiple dunks and laser-like passing while using his speed, ball skills and 208cm frame to play every position from point guard to centre during the game.

In his college debut last week Simmons had 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in LSU's 81-70 win over McNeese State.

Simmons, the son of New York-born NBL star forward-centre Dave Simmons, is expected to leave LSU at the end of the college season and declare for the NBA Draft.

He is the consensus No.1 pick and if that becomes reality will become an instant multi-millionaire with a $US6 million first-year NBA salary and millions more in shoe and other endorsements.
